# Biostatistics and Clinical Research Methodology Unit

The Biostatistics and Clinical Research Methodology Unit (BCRMU) is part of the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine and is hosted by the School of Public Health at the University of Hong Kong.

## Mission

BCRMU supports research activities in the Faculty of Medicine by providing expert advice on biostatistics and clinical research methodology. The Unit also provides statistical consultancy to public bodies and private companies.

## Services

BCRMU advises on study design, sample-size calculations, questionnaire design, planning and implementation of statistical analysis, and analysis and interpretation of quantitative data. Advice supports grant applications, manuscripts for journal publication, and reports.

Services are available to Faculty staff and postgraduate students. Technical support and consultancy for HKUMed grant applications are provided free of charge; other services are charged by hourly or daily rates. Researchers are encouraged to discuss anticipated data-management and analysis costs before submitting grant applications.

## Team

- Dr Helen Zhi is Scientific Officer and Director of BCRMU. Her experience includes clinical trials, medical statistics, and regulatory submissions.
- Professor Ben Cowling is a Senior Consultant with expertise in medical statistics, generalized linear models, survival analysis, study design, and meta-analysis.
- Consultants include Dr Irene Wong, Dr Peng Wu, Dr Ryan Au Yeung, and Dr Jessica Wong of the School of Public Health, HKU.

## Basic concepts

The home page includes introductory material and examples for bar charts, histograms, scatter plots, box plots, and means and error plots.
